There are many superb bike paths out there, around lakes, through countryside and around towns that can be enjoyed but The Col de la Loze is the newest paved climb in the Alps and the high point of the 2020 Tour de France. It’s also a confounding climb and the world’s most sporty cycle path.
This is an alpine pass like no other. Traffic free, painfully steep but rewarded with incredible views.
A route I get to ride up regularly either from Meribel or Courchevel. I have never found it easy.
I first attempted the Courchevel side at the end of October 2018 a few days after it first opened.
The Col de la Loze is located in Savoie, France, between Méribel and Courchevel. It’s an old mountain road that has been asphalted to create a bike path for cyclists.
Many sections are more than 20% in the last 6 kilometers of the ascent.
Altitude of the col de la Loze : 2 304 m
Access to the Loze pass :
From Brides-les-Bains (73), 21.5 km of ascent at 7.8% (vertical drop: 1674 m)
Méribel le col de la Loze was the site of the arrival of the 17th stage of the Tour de France 2020.
Watching the Tour de France stage life on the Col de la Loze was an incredible experience even in these times.
